  3. This BIOS version is for the following computer series:
  4.

  6.   BIOS Version 5.00     For: T2100 series
  7.                         Compatible models: T2100CT, T2105CT,

  11. This BIOS version is Windows 95 compatible and supports Plug and Play
  12. functionality.
  13.  
  14. ******************** BIOS INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ********************
  15. ************************************************************************
  16.  
  17. There are two ways to install this BIOS version:
  18.  
  19. 1) At startup by holding down the F12 key.
  20.  
  21. 2) Run CHGBIOS.EXE at the command prompt. 
  22.    
  23.  
  24. ********************************** CAUTION! *******************************
  25. ***************************************************************************
  26. During the upgrading of your computers BIOS, if the computer loses power or
  27. fails to complete the process of upgrading the BIOS, the existing BIOS in
  28. the computer may become damaged. In the event of this occurring, the
  29. F12 Installation Method, described below, can be used to recover from
  30. this error condition.  
  31.  
  32. If you are upgrading a number of computers with this BIOS, the F12 
  33. installation method is the quickest but does require a separate low
  34. density (720 Kb) diskette.
  35.  
  36.  
  37. 1) F12 INSTALLATION METHOD
  38. ---------------------------
  39.  
  40. Your Toshiba computer has a special keyboard function to install an
  41. updated BIOS image.
  42.  
  43. IMPORTANT!
  44. ----------
  45. To use this function, both the CHGBIOS.EXE program and the BIOS image file,
  46. BOOTBIOS.COM, must be placed on a LOW DENSITY (720 Kb) diskette.  A high
  47. density (1.44 Mb) floppy disk will not work.
  48.  
  49. To use this function, hold down the F12 while the computer is powered on.
  50. The computer MUST be in BOOT mode, not Resume mode.
  51.  
  52. The F12 installation method will only work with the internal keyboard.  If
  53. your computer is docked with the display closed and are using an external
  54. keyboard, the computer will need to be undocked and the internal keyboard's
  55. F12 key used.
  56.  
  57. When the computer starts up with F12 key depressed, the following 
  58. message appears:
  59.  
  60. 'Ready for BIOS update. Place the BIOS diskette in the drive, and press 
  61. any key when ready to proceed.'
  62.  
  63. Insert the 720 Kb diskette that contains CHGBIOS.EXE and BOOTBIOS.COM, 
  64. and press any key.  The CHGBIOS program will automatically load the 
  65. BOOTBIOS.COM file.

  68. 2) RUN CHGBIOS.EXE AT THE COMMAND PROMPT
  69. ----------------------------------------
  70.  
  71. The CHGBIOS.EXE program is designed to be run from the MS-DOS command
  72. prompt.  It cannot be run in a DOS box inside of Windows 3.1x, Windows 95,
  73. OS/2 or other operating systems.  It also will not run if a Memory Manager,
  74. like EMM386, is loaded.  The CHGBIOS.EXE program can be run from a
  75. floppy disk, hard drive, or PCMCIA drive.  However, you will need a floppy
  76. diskette (high or low density) in your A: drive at the time the CHGBIOS.EXE 
  77. program is run.
  78.  
  79. When the CHGBIOS.EXE program is executed by itself, it will prompt you 
  80. to specify where the BIOS image file, BOOTBIOS.COM is located.  Enter 
  81. the complete path and file name. Example: A:\T215_500\BOOTBIOS.COM.

  83. NOTE!

  86. If your path for BOOTBIOS.COM is anywhere other than the root directory 
  87. of the A: drive (A:\BOOTBIOS.COM), CHGBIOS.EXE will copy the BIOS image
  88. file from its current location to the root directory of A: drive.

  91. Optionally, the CHGBIOS.EXE program can also be run from a single command
  92. which includes the path to the BOOTBIOS.COM file.

  103. DISPLAY SWITCHING
  104. -----------------
  105. With Windows 95, the display will switch from the internal display to an 
  106. external display when warm docking onto a Port Replicator, Enhanced Port 
  107. Replicator, or DeskStation.  This feature will only work with 
  108. Windows 95.

  110. ALL MODELS EXCEPT: T2400CT/CS,T3600CT,T4700CT/CS,T4800CT,T4850CT
  111.  
  112. REWORDING OF PARALLEL PORT NAMES IN TSETUP
  113. ------------------------------------------
  114. The names of the modes for parallel port have been updated in TSETUP to 
  115. describe their functions in a more  understandable way.
  116. => OUTPUT has been changed to ECP (Enhanced Capabilities Port).
  117. => Bi-directional has been changed to Std. Bi-Direct.
  118. This wording does not affect their functionality or the functionality of 
  119. other Toshiba Windows utilities.
  120.  
  121. However, versions of HWsetup for Windows 3.1x will still indicate the 
  122. old names for the parallel port.

  125. ADDITIONAL COMMUNICATIONS PORTS
  126. -------------------------------
  127. Two additional Communication Port addresses, COM3 and COM4, have been 
  128. added in TSETUP.  HWsetup for Windows 3.1x will not recognize these 
  129. ports as being available.  If COM3 or COM4 are selected in TSETUP, 
  130. HWsetup will not show any port being selected.

  136. EIDE HARD DRIVE SUPPORT
  137. -----------------------
  138. The BIOS section for hard drive support has been upgraded to support 
  139. Enhanced IDE hard drive .  This means that support for hard drives 
  140. larger than 528mb is now available.  Check with your local Toshiba Sales 
  141. representative for a listing of compatible hard drives.

  147. UPDATED HOTKEY.DLL
  148. ------------------
  149. An additional file called HOTKEY.DLL is included with this BIOS version.
  150. This file is an update to the Windows 3.1x file that is pre-installed on 
  151. your computer.  This file is used by the following Toshiba Windows 
  152. utilities; Maxtime, FN-esse, and Audio Control Windows Sound System.
  153.  
  154. The existing HOTKEY.DLL provided for Windows 3.1x, causes the Windows 95 
  155. status bar not to be updated when these Toshiba Windows Utilities are 
  156. running.
  157.  
  158. Please note:  Windows 95 will display a warning about the use of 
  159. Maxtime, FN-esse, and Audio Controls.  Once the updated HOTKEY.DLL has 
  160. been added, you can check that you don't want to be notified any 
  161. further.
  162.  
  163. INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING HOTKEY.DLL
  164. -------------------------------------
  165. The existing HOTKEY.DLL file should be located in your Windows directory 
  166. (the default location is C:\WINDOWS).  This file should be deleted.  The 
  167. updated copy, found on this diskette, should be copied into the Windows 
  168. system subdirectory (usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM).
  169. Please note that you cannot delete the old file while Maxtime, FN-esse, 
  170. or Audio Controls are running  (these programs use this file).
  171.  
  172. After copying this file in, you should Restart Windows for the file 
  173. change to take effect.

  175. ********************** Additional Windows 95 Tips **********************
  176. ************************************************************************

  179. T4900CT/T4850CT-800/610CT/400CS/CT MODELS ONLY
  180. ----------------------------------------------
  181. Prior to installing Windows 95, disable 32-bit Hard Drive access under 
  182. Windows 3.1x.  (Follow this procedure: Go to the Main window in Program 
  183. Manager, select Control Panel, select 386 Enhanced, and click on Virtual 
  184. Memory. Change and unmark the check box for 32-bit Disk Access)
  185. This is because the Toshiba provided 32-Bit Hard Drive Access driver 
  186. prevents the hard drive from being reported correctly in the Windows 95 
  187. Device Manager.

  189. There is no need to modify the Windows 3.1x SYSTEM.INI file to remove 
  190. the driver.

  193. COMPUTERS EQUIPPED WITH ACCUPOINT POINTING DEVICES
  194. --------------------------------------------------
  195. The Logitech mouse driver v6.32 provided with these models and its 
  196. features provided with these computers is designed for Windows 3.1x and 
  197. can cause some erratic behavior in Windows 95.  Specifically, the Enable 
  198. Tracking option in Logitech Cursor Enhancement does not function 
  199. correctly under Windows 95.

  202. COMPUTERS WITH ESS AUDIO CARDS
  203. ------------------------------
  204. Windows 95 will show a setting for a Joystick both in the Control Panel 
  205. and in the Device Manager upon the first boot up on Computers with an 
  206. ESS Audio card if installed in an "undocked" state.  After shutting down 
  207. the computer, and restarting, the Joystick is reported correctly.  If 
  208. Windows 95 is installed when the computer is "docked" to the Port 
  209. Replicator, the Joystick is set correctly.

  212. COMPUTERS WITH EXTERNAL FLOPPY DRIVES THAT ARE NOT ATTACHED
  213. -----------------------------------------------------------
  214. You will receive an error message at the end of the installation as
  215. Windows 95 restarts, reporting that there is a floppy diskette in the 
  216. floppy disk drive. Press <OK> to continue with the installation.

  219. DEMO PROGRAMS ARE MISINTERPRETED AS SCREEN SAVER PROGRAMS
  220. ---------------------------------------------------------
  221. Some Toshiba Sales Demo programs are misinterpreted by Windows95 as a 
  222. screen saver program.  The demo program will function as a screen saver 
  223. program, except that mouse movements and mouse buttons do not recover 
  224. the screen.  Only a keyboard entry will recover the screen.

  227. UNKNOWN MONITOR AFTER DOCKING
  228. -----------------------------
  229. If the LCD display is set up as a Laptop Display Panel in the "undocked" 
  230. state, when the computer is "docked", the Monitor type will come up as 
  231. an Unknown monitor.

  234. SECOND PCMCIA CONTROLLER APPEARS IN DEVICE MANAGER
  235. --------------------------------------------------
  236. When Windows95 is installed in the "undocked" state and then "docked" to 
  237. a Port Replicator or DeskStation, a second 'PCIC or Compatible PCMCIA 
  238. Controller' may be listed in Device Manager.  Delete the second 
  239. controller from Device Manager.
  240.  
  241. If the computer is "docked" to an Enhanced Port Replicator, it should 
  242. report a second 'PCIC or Compatible PCMCIA Controller' because there is 
  243. one located inside the Enhanced Port Replicator.
